mommy NyLon’s Top10: 1+2

I’ve put together a list of the top 10 pregnancy and baby things I’ve used over the last year.  As it turns out, lots of people have thought of brilliant things to make it all easier/more fun/more stylish and I rave about some of these things to people enough to warrant writing it all down!

Since I wanted to give good descriptions of why I like them, I’m going to spread it out over the next little while.  Enjoy!

  1. WhatToExpect.com; Part of the community stemming from Heidi Murkoff’s extremely successful book, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, WhatToExpect.com is a great resource for moms hoping to learn more about our growing little babes, and sometimes to calm our fears about strange symptoms of pregnancy. Even better, get the free iPod/iPhone app so you can track your little one’s growth obsessively everywhere you go! My personal favourite is the forum, where you can swap comments, questions, and stories with other moms who are expecting in the same month, city, or interest group as you. Other online resources of note include BabyCenter.com, with useful (and scary) videos throughout the countdown, and the app Full Term to time your contractions when they actually start! And after Baby arrives, there is another WTE app for the first year of development and keep up with those forum friends.
  2. Amazon Mom; Pregnancy and baby products are BIG business, and the companies that sell them know it! But even though you’re likely to drop somewhere between $2000 and $20,000 over the first 24 months on baby goods, most of the retailers are stingy with the loyalty discounts. Not so for Amazon.com! You might never see a “Sale” flyer for Amazon.com, but they do have deals all the time; check the amazon.com/mom landing page. Not only that but they almost always have the best price to start.  Best of all, Amazon Mom is the best completely free loyalty scheme I’ve seen. You get free 2-day shipping for the first 6 months, and it’s extended by a month every time you make a qualifying purchase over $25 (for up to a year total). And for consumables, if you subscribe to an item you get a whopping 30% off the cost and always free shipping! They also send you suggestions based on your purchases and emails about short-lived deals. Finally, I could not have made such informed choices on pregnancy and baby gear without the reviews from other users. It’s so valuable and completely free, even if you don’t purchase there, so make sure to check them out when shopping and leave reviews when you’ve gotten to try the goods!
